Reflections: Ash Wednesday – Saturday

Ash Wednesday

The distribution of ashes looks different this year…and maybe your Lent will too. Fr. Romke gives us insight into these things to get us started on the Lenten journey.

Reflection Points:

  • How do I believe God is calling me to grow over the next 40 days?
  • What structure can I put in place in order to create space in my life and in my heart to grow where God wants me to?

THURSDAY – Lenten JOY!

Jen Sagel proposes the idea that Lent can be a time of joy!

REFLECTION POINTS:

  • What can I do today that is a sacrifice of my time, but that will enrich the lives of others and in turn allow me to experience joy in giving so that others may receive?
  • Ask yourself: do I fall into the trap of thinking that Lent should be uncomfortable and sort of miserable and then resent the Lord for the sacrifices I am trying to keep? What can I do to reframe that thinking?

PRAY THE LITANY OF TRUST:

Pray the following prayer on the behalf of others who are despairing, that they will once again find joy in life, even amidst times of trial. Try to think of someone specific.

LITANY OF TRUST:

From the belief that
I have to earn Your love
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear that I am unlovable
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the false security
that I have what it takes
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear that trusting You
will leave me more destitute
Deliver me, Jesus.
From all suspicion of
Your words and promises
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the rebellion against
childlike dependency on You
Deliver me, Jesus.
From refusals and reluctances
in accepting Your will
Deliver me, Jesus.
From anxiety about the future
Deliver me, Jesus.
From resentment or excessive
preoccupation with the past
Deliver me, Jesus.
From restless self-seeking
in the present moment
Deliver me, Jesus.
From disbelief in Your love
and presence
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being asked
to give more than I have
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the belief that my life
has no meaning or worth
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of what love demands
Deliver me, Jesus.
From discouragement
Deliver me, Jesus.

That You are continually holding me
sustaining me, loving me
Jesus, I trust in you.
That Your love goes deeper than my
sins and failings, and transforms me
Jesus, I trust in you.
That not knowing what tomorrow
brings is an invitation to lean on You
Jesus, I trust in you.
That you are with me in my suffering
Jesus, I trust in you.
That my suffering, united to Your own,
will bear fruit in this life and the next
Jesus, I trust in you.
That You will not leave me orphan,
that You are present in Your Church
Jesus, I trust in you.
That Your plan is better
than anything else
Jesus, I trust in you.
That You always hear me and in
Your goodness always respond to me
Jesus, I trust in you.
That You give me the grace to accept
forgiveness and to forgive others
Jesus, I trust in you.
That You give me all the strength
I need for what is asked
Jesus, I trust in you.
That my life is a gift
Jesus, I trust in you.
That You will teach me to trust You
Jesus, I trust in you.
That You are my Lord and my God
Jesus, I trust in you.
That I am Your beloved one
Jesus, I trust in you.

Amen.

FRIDAY – FIRST STEPS

Fr. Romke gives some things to consider as we take our first steps on this Lenten journey.

REFLECTION POINTS:

  • Where are you right now? Ask God to show you the map so that you can know where you are at and where He wants to take you.
  • What step is God asking you to take today? What single thing can you do to move closer towards God?
  • Can you try closing your eyes and sensing God’s presence by your side? Be encouraged that you have God as your guide right there with you!
  • Keep your ears, eyes, and heart open to seeing the unique ways in which God is going to try you that He loves you today!

SATURDAY – PRAYER

Today we are changing things up a little and rather than giving you things to pray about: We are going to simply Pray with you!  Today and each Wednesday during Lent we will be providing you with an audio recording to help focus your prayer and help guide you in your journey with God.  Today specifically as you listen you will find moments of silence to reach out to the Lord, on each Wednesday we will walk you through a guided meditation.  So we encourage you to find a comfortable, peaceful, and quiet place in your home or wherever you find yourself, open up your heart to God, and reach out to Him as you make this time of prayer your own.
